The times have changed

This post I posted almost exactly a year ago. I really like this post, and since many of us collegiate ladies are heading back to school in the coming weeks, I thought it would be appropriate to re-post. Enjoy!

I have some things to rant about in this post. First off being out to dinner "dress code" and second being college "dress code". Last weekend, as you read I went to two very nice restaurants for dinner. To both dinners, I wore semi-casual dresses, but dressed them up with shoes/hair/jewelry/makeup. The first night, when bRc took me out to dinner, we literally went to one of the fanciest places in our city. I wore a nicer Lilly dress, and bRc wore khakis with a tucked in button down and belt. For the most part, there were couples dining at this restaurant and many looked nice. However, there were several couples that were in jeans and very very casual clothing. I'm all about having freedom to wear whatever, but if you are going to go out and spend $100 on dinner, why not at least put a little effort into your clothing? I do admit I am bias on this whole rant because I tend to always look at peoples clothing because I really have a love for fashion, and love to dress up at any chance I get.
The next night, my family of 4 went out to dinner in a nice area of town, and had a very nice/delicious dinner. I wore a black anne taylor shift, with satin flip flops. My mom wore a paisley dress and pearls, and my sister wore a Lilly shirtdress with heeled sandals. We all looked nice, presentable, and well groomed. This unfortunately was not true of others dining in the same restaurant. Many were clad in jeans, t-shirts, and downright very casual clothing. This may have been appropriate clothing for lunch, but not for a Saturday night dinner.

My point really comes down to this: Why doesn't anyone dress up or at least nicely to go out to dinner on weekends anymore? I understand that if you go to the Olive garden, that wearing a t-shirt and jeans is totally fine. But when it comes to decently nice restaurants, even ones such as the Cheesecake factory, why not put a little effort into your outfit? Throw on a jersey dress, or add heels to your outfit. Maybe wear a dress you have been saving to wear for something/anything.

I know all of the blogs that I read, probably can relate with me here, because as far as I'm concerned you all have exceptional taste and style. Why do you think people have decided that casual is appropriate for anywhere at all?

My second rant goes out to sweat pant wearing college students:
Dear fellow college ladies,
Why do you think it is appropriate to wear sweatpants to class? I don't care how hungover you are, or how late you were up studying for a test, or how comfortable you are. By wearing sweatpants, you give out the vibe that you have no style, no respect for your professor, no respect for the class, no respect for others around you, and no respect for yourself. While I do enjoy the comfort of warm sweatpants, sweatshirts, and sorority t-shirts (in the comfort of my dorm), I do not wear these articles of clothing beyond my room unless I am heading to the gym because I know I can do better than that. You should try and look your best at all times, because you never know who you will meet during your day. Plus, doesn't looking good make you feel a little better about yourself? Wouldn't you liked to hear someone say, "I like your dress"? Don't you want your peers to know that you have enough respect for yourself, to pull yourself together and make it to class looking the best you can? Just because your parents are not around to tell you what to wear, wouldn't you want to make them proud by wearing what they would want you to wear? You are called a lady for a reason, so live up to the name and show off your rocking wardrobe, sense of taste, and make you proud of yourself!
Yours truly,
sCe

I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but just maybe, a sweat pant wearing college student will stop by my blog at some point and read this, and just maybe it will change their minds and they will dress nicely for class! Just a thought.. what do you think? Do you have a rebuttal for this? I really would love to hear it, because I do love a good pair of sweatpants to lounge in, and I do understand that they are very comfortable. Let me know what you think!
Yours,
sCe
